Mark Afman of Colorado Then and Now Photographs on Facebook put his talents to work to produce this amazing set of old vs new photos of our area. View images from Conifer to Evergreen to the South Platte River to see how things have changed, as well as stayed the same!
Mark is a 3rd generation Colorado and Denver native. His father loved going into the mountains and taught him a great deal about the history of the state. His interest in history and photograph lead him to John Fielder’s book Colorado 1870-2000 and inspired him to do his own comparisons. He’s now been compiling paired photos from all over the state for 15 years, with 1500 photos to-date. Family outings brought Mark to this area throughout his childhood. He was fascinated with the Meyer Ranch and the little Cesna airplane he saw tucked in a little barn right off the highway as you came into our valley. Since he never saw it take off or land it had even more allure. Although he thought he knew a thing, or 10, about this area due to his years of visits, this project revealed to him the depth of history Conifer and the surrounding areas have, opening his eyes to the richness of our mountain culture!
